Kaleva
1. Pentti Yli-Jokipii’s thesis on “The cultural geography of Kaleva, a Finnish Immigrant Community in Michigan”, Acta Geographica 22, Societas Geographica Fenniae, Helsinki, 1971, pp 1-24, was a great help in filling in gaps on the history of Kaleva.
2. Kaleva has its own home page (could use a little work, though).
3. Marvin Larson’s Laaksonen Centennial Farm Application, a 71-page compilation of documents, information and pictures on the Laaksonen farm, its owners and Kaleva, was also of great help in writing the history of Kaleva and the Laaksonen farm.
Software
1. The free Legacy 3.0 genealogy program was used for data entry and storage. The program allowed easy generation of the Laaksonen pedigree web pages. MicrosoftWord and FrontPage2000 and 2002 were used for editing the pages.
2. TreeDraw for Legacy was used to generate a basic black and white descendent tree chart. The chart was transferred to Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 for editing and then transferred to FrontPage as a picture.
3. FrontPage 2000 and 2002 were used for editing all other web pages.
4. Microsoft PictureIt! and Photo Editor and Ulead Photo Express were used for editing photos.
