Introduction
The Faculty of Social Sciences is focused on Health and Social Sciences. The
mission of the Faculty is to carry out research and produce expertise in
wellbeing and health of individuals, society and populations. The produced
knowledge serves important areas of society such as health care and social
management and leadership, economics and education.
The departments belonging to the Faculty of Social Sciences are the
Department of Nursing Science, the Department of Social Policy and Social
Psychology, Department of Social Work and Social Pedagogy and the Department of
Health Policy and Management. The Faculty also includes the Minna Canth Institute
and the Research Unit for
Disability, Shiftec (Social and Health Information Technology Research Unit).
There are at present about 1600 undergraduate and 400 postgraduate
students in the Faculty.
The Faculty offers nationally unique opportunities for higher
education in social pedagogy, health economics as well as health and human
services
informatics.
