Our research areas studied by
the group cover hygienic microbiology of different waters to agricultural
plant growth optimization by use of waste products with emphasis on
developing countries. We try to find solutions to sustainable
development in global climate change, too.
Present research
areas:
Treatment methods of animal manure, human
urine or liquid
organic wastes in
order to guarantee their safe utilisation for fertilisation (contacts Päivi Karinen, Surendra Pradhan, Helvi
Heinonen-Tanski or Anna-Maria Veijalainen)
Ecological sanitation, waste treatment and
drinking water (contacts Helvi Heinonen-Tanski, Surendra
Pradhan)
Soil micro-organisms (especially ectomycorrhiza) and their activity (contact Tarja Laatikainen or Helvi
Heinonen-Tanski)
Occurrence of mycobacteria in different water sources (drinking
water, warm tap water, process waters, waste
waters) and the factors affecting the occurrence (contact Eila Torvinen).
Fate of enteric microorganisms in advanced
waste water treatment processes. Enteric microorganisms and occupational
hygiene (contacts Helvi Heinonen-Tanski)
Better control and management of wastewater,
water and energy nets, with special reference to wastewater
characterisation (contact Helvi Heinonen-Tanski or Hannu Poutiainen)
