Research Interests

My scope of research encompasses various novel applications of environmental technologies for water treatment and investigation of the process fundamentals involved. The research interests and expertise are reflected in the following list
  • Complexing agents in the pulp and paper industry
  • On-line analysis of metals
  • Optimization of the performance of bleaching processes
  • Ecotoxicological evaluation of xenobiotic compounds
  • Homogenous and heterogenous catalysis in water treatment technology
  • Advanced oxidation in the break-down of organic load
  • Corrosion in pulp and paper industrial cooking liquids
  • Electrokinetic soil remediation
  • Flocculation as a unit operation in water treatment
  • Chemical nitrogen removal from industrial and municipal waste waters
  • Closure of water circulation processes
  • Ion exchange in cation removal from industrial waters
  • Nanoscale adsorbents in water treatment
  • UV LED technology in water treatment
  • Development of compact chemical-biological waste water treatment processes
  • Transportation of organic compounds in receiving aquatic environment
  • Development of analytical techniques for the determination of organics and inorganics
  • Electrochemical methods in water treatment
  • Environmental fate of chemicals
  • Nanoparticles in water treatment

Various emerging environmental problems require fresh approaches to mitigate them. To facilitate an effective environmental remediation in an aquatic environment, our research group have applied various novel environmental technologies including the application of nanomaterials for water treatment. Our research not only directly addresses the need of our global society today for ‘clean water’, but also further stimulates relevant development in the identified niche areas in the body of knowledge to meet ever-changing needs of global research landscape in the area of water pollution control. Therefore, in recent years, our laboratory have actively promoted cutting edge research made in Finland, where it may establish itself at the forefront of international research race as a global hub of environmental technology by providing novel, low-cost, beneficial, and practical solutions to the world.
