On going Research Projects
Monitoring the quality of waters and waste waters is important in
protecting public health and environment. Various parameters are already in
use for the determination of different contaminants from waters. However, an
increase in environmental pollution and/or increase in public awareness and
understanding in health related issues has resulted need to develop better,
faster, and more sustainable methods to study toxic substances from
contaminated water as well as to monitor the quality of treated water.
My present research is focused on investigating the suitability and
technical potential of IMS as an early warning system for monitoring
volatile toxic chemicals in municipal waters and waste waters as well as in
industrial wastewater. The compounds of interest include fuel based
compounds such as methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE). The project will
contribute to the development of novel strategies in water quality control
and strengthening of environmental management in terms of water monitoring.
