Introduction

 The Faculty of Medicine is one of the five faculties of the University of Kuopio and one of the five faculties of medicine in Finland. Education in medicine has been given since 1972 which was the first year of activity at the University. In addition to medicine education is given in health sciences (main subjects are clinical nutrition, ergonomics, exercise medicine, public health).

Year 2006 witnessed a change in the structure of departments at the University of Kuopio. The Faculty of Medicine has now been divided into three large units:

• Institute of Biomedicine
• Institute of Clinical Medicine
• School of Public Health and Clinical Nutrition

The mission of the faculty is to promote free, internationally recognised researc of high quality and produce new knowledge on selected fields of research (e.g. neurosciences and medical imaging).
