The Brain Research UnitThe Brain Research Unit is a part of the new Clinical Research Center that is committed to conducting high quality research in clinical science and in drug development in collaboration with local, national and international research groups and pharmaceutical industry. It works in close collaboration with laboratories in the Department of Neuroscience and Neurology of Kuopio University and University Hospital as well as other research units in the Clinical Research Center. The Brain Research Unit has 20 years experience and active national and international networks.
The main interest of research in the unit is diagnosis, treatment and prevention of neurodegenerative and cerebrovascular disorders.
The unit has excellent facilities and previous experience in studying the mechanisms of drugs in various model systems as well as in the preclinical phase, in studying the genetics and risk factors of complex diseases in large population-based cohorts, in developing biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases and in conducting large-scale clinical trials. GCP level services for clinical pharmaceutical trials (I-IV phases) are available.
