ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY GROUP

INTRODUCTION

The general objective is to develop inorganic (AAS: graphite furnace, flame, cold vapour) and organic analysis (liquid, gas, gel and ion chromatography) especially in biomaterials for medical and environmental research. Especially good analytics, with high quality and low detection limits, has been developed for selenium, mercury and cadmium. The role of the elements is studied in health (pregnancy and lactation) and diseases (coronary heart diseases, cheiloschisis). Special interest is in the interactions between selenium and the group IIB elements.

Different chromatographic methods are developed in many projects in collaboration with the departments of Kuopio University. The research group offers also commercial analyses on their field of expertise.
