Training
The
Department offers international courses and programmes in public health at various
levels. The teaching language is English.
Master's Degree Programme in Public Health (MPH)
Master's Degree Programme (CBU) in Public Health
Master of Public Health Nutrition (MPHN)
Public Health Programme for Medical Students (PHP)
We also offer
smaller modules and individual courses in English, some of which can be taken as
part of the doctoral (PhD) training.
The flagship
of our international higher education on the graduate level is the two-year (120
ECT) Master's Degree Programme in Public Health (MPH). Ten
international students are admitted annually to this programme, which aims at
training professionals who are competent as public health practitioners,
teachers and researchers. The Master's Programme is designed for those who already
have an academic degree in a health-related field, and who are willing to
acquire further skills in public health. Bachelor's degree is a minimum
requirement, but people with relevant graduate degrees, or those with medical or
equivalent degrees are encouraged to apply.
The Master's Degree Programme (CBU) in Public Health is designed for students with a prior academic degree in a health related field. The goal of this programme is to prepare graduates to apply a wide range of professional knowledge and abilities in public health both in Russia and in Finland.
As a special
branch of Public Health graduate training, the School of Public Health and Clinical Nutrition offers the Master’s Programme in Public Health Nutrition (MPHN). The aim of the program is to train specialists in Public Health Nutrition who can work in e.g. in related research, development and projects. Feasible employers include administrative bodies, organizations, industry, schools and research institutions.
Public
Health Programme, PHP, is one of the three options in the alternative studies
that medical students can choose from at the University of Kuopio. This popular programme, unique of its kind in whole Finland, amounts to about 20 ECTS.
The programme is coordinated and largely integrated with the International Master's Degree Programme in Public Health, thus bringing together Finnish medical
students and international Public Health students. Also exchange students from
international partner universities, with medical or other health-related
background, have participated in these courses.
