The primary research objective of the Department of Pharmaceutical
Chemistry is the study and development of novel medicinal compounds. The
research activities are concentrated in two major topics:
Medicinal Chemistry concentrates on the application of modern methods of
rational drug design and organic chemistry for the development of novel
medicinal compounds. Pharmaceutical drug design concerns the study and
creation of new methods that enable the modification of physiochemical,
pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical properties of medicinal compounds.
The basis of research into bio-organic medicinal compounds is the search
and selection of appropriate cellular and metabolic therapeutic targets. This
research concentrates on the medicinal use and design of natural, bio-organic,
and synthetically derived compounds and also their production.
In addition, the design of analytical and other research methods is an
essential part of any research in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. |
