On behalf of the Medinfo 2004 Organizing Committee and its chair, Dr. Ted
Shortliffe, I am pleased to send here a press release announcing the
availability of the Call for Participation for Medinfo 2004. This
international Congress will take place September 7-11, 2004 in San
Francisco, California, United States. But please note that the submission
schedule for this meeting will be July 23 - September 15, 2003.
As the host organization for Medinfo 2004, AMIA would very much appreciate
your assistance the assistance of your institution in spreading the word
about the availability of the Call for Participation and the submission
time frames for Medinfo 2004. There are downloadable copies of the Call
for Participation available at http://www.medinfo2004.org in both regular
and text-only versions. We would also be happy to forward you a copy via
e-mail for your convenience. Please send an e-mail request to
mail@mail.amia.org.
Many of you have already requested multiple copies of the Call for
Participation to distribute to your members. Thank you for your
assistance, if you have not received your shipment it is on the way. We
would happy to send anyone else a quantity of printed copies of the
Medinfo 2004 Call for Participation should you want to distribute it to

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION - MEDINFO 2004 THE TRIENNIAL CONGRESS OF THE
INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL INFORMATICS ASSOCIATION
Washington, DC, April 16, 2003 - the Call for Participation for Medinfo
2004 - the 11th World Congress on Medical Informatics is now available at
www.medinfo2004.org. The theme of this Congress is Building High
Performance Health Care Organizations: Biomedical Informatics for
Enhancing Health Care, Research, and Education. The Congress will be
accepting submissions in six categories: papers, demonstrations, posters,
panels, workshops, and tutorials. All submissions must be made through the
Medinfo 2004 Web site at www. Medinfo2004.org from July 23, 2003 through
September 15, 2003. Submissions must be in English, and must conform to
the specific requirements outlined in the Medinfo 2004 Call for
Participation.
This will be the first time since 1986 the Medinfo Congress has met in the
United States. It will be hosted by the American Medical Informatics
Association (AMIA) on September 7-11, 2004 in San Francisco, California.
Dr. Edward Shortliffe, heads a distinguished nine-person Organizing
Committee.
The Medinfo 2004 Congress will provide presentations that contribute to
the foundations, understanding, and advancement of medical informatics.
The Medinfo 2004 Scientific Program Committee, an international committee,
co-chaired by Dr. Mario Stefanelli and Dr. Casimir Kulikowski, encourages
experts in health information technology to submit their work to this
meeting. Seven themes have been developed to guide authors in focusing on
the main biomedical informatics directions emphasized in this Congress,
consistent with the central theme of building high performance
organizations for enhancing health care, research, and education. These
themes include:
- Biomedical Knowledge Management: Enabling High Performance Health Care,
Research, and Educational Organizations to Promote Excellence;
- Bioinformatics: Computation and Knowledge for the Genomic Era;
- Clinical Informatics: Applications in Research and Clinical Care;
- Education and Training: Creating and Enhancing Learning Through
e-Learning Environments;
- Informatics Bridging Biomedical Science, Clinical Practice, and
Education;
- Health Informatics Transforming Patients from Passive to Active
Consumers of Health Care; and
- Technology Transfer: Disseminating and Generalizing Innovation Across
Health Enterprises.
The Medinfo 2004 Scientific Program Committee (SPC) has the responsibility
for the final selection of submissions for all categories of
presentations. To facilitate this process, the committee is assisted by an
interdisciplinary group of reviewers who initially evaluate submitted
papers and proposals and judge them according to content, originality,
relevance, organization, and clarity.
