International co-operation
The international co-operation networks of the University are worldwide and multi-disciplinary. Traditionally international partners come from North America, Europe and North-West Russia and nowadays increasingly from East and South-East Asia and North Africa.
The University participates actively in international research programmes, especially in the EU´s Framework Programmes in the fields of life sciences, genomics and biotechnology for health, food quality and safety and information society technologies.
Educational cooperation
The University has a broad spectrum of educational cooperation with over 200 universities abroad. It participates in the following development and education programmes: Socrates, Leonardo da Vinci, FIRST, NordForsk, Nordplus, ISEP, Asla-Fulbright, the University of North Carolina Exchange Programme, Cross Border University Programme, North-South Programme, Experience International, IPSF, IFMSA and IAESTE. The University also has bilateral exchange agreements with universities from Argentina, Australia, China, South Korea, Mexico and the USA.
Annually about 260 international students study at the University of Kuopio, and about 180 of the Finnish degree students spend an exchange period abroad.
