MARTTI J. KARVONEN YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD

Martti J. KarvonenYoung scientists are invited to compete for the 7th Martti J. Karvonen Young Investigator Award. Investigators aged 35 years or less, and who hold an academic (or comparable) rank below associate professor are eligible to participate in the competition by their own research, which is new or may have been published in 2009.

Applicants need to send to The Puijo Symposium Secretariat:

* an abstract and a curriculum vitae  
* a short manuscript, (max. 1500 words including  tables, figures and references) in electronic format

Deadline for applications is May 20, 2009

An international review panel will select three finalists, who will be informed of the outcome of the initial review process by May 23. The same panel will also judge the oral presentations given during the symposium on Wednesday, June 24, 2009. Candidate's native language does not play a role in the judgement, which means that perfect English is not a pre-requisite for success. Please note, these three finalists will not be eligible to The Ralph S. Paffenbarger Jr. Poster Award. Those young investigators not selected to be a finalist can still participate in The Ralph S. Paffenbarger Jr. Poster Award.

The finalists will be awarded as follows:

Winner 3000 EUR

 

Runner-up 2000 EUR

 

Third 1000 EUR

 

The panel may also decide not to deliver one or more prizes.

RALPH S. PAFFENBARGER JR. POSTER AWARD

Ralph S. Paffenbarger Jr.

Participants sending an previously unpublished abstract to Puijo Symposium are invited to compete for The Ralph S. Paffenbarger Jr. Poster Award. All accepted abstracts are eligible, and participants are asked to send a copy of their poster presentation in an electronic form to The Puijo Symposium Secretariat by June 1. An international review panel will select during the Symposium three finalists, who will make an oral presentation on Thursday, June 25, 2009.

The finalists will be awarded as follows:

Advice for posters

Posters should be 90 cm wide and 120 cm high. When planning your poster, please note that the organizers will enlarge your abstract (A4 size), which will be placed at the upper left hand corner of the board. Posters should be mounted on Tuesday, June 23 by 10 a.m. and they may remain in place during the whole Symposium. The number of your poster board will be given you at the registration desk. Please note, the three best posters will be presented also orally on Thursday June 25.
