Department of Biosciences / Biochemistry
 

The Department of Biosciences (Chemistry, Biochemistry, Applied biotechnology) belongs to the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences. The Biochemistry unit is located in Snellmania building at the University campus. Together with Chemistry and Applied Biotechnology it is responsible of the recently established Biosciences degree program that began in autumn 2005. The new Bioscience curriculum provides graduates with firm grounding in modern biochemistry, molecular biology, bioscientific chemistry, molecular bioinformatics and biotechnology. Ever since of its establishment (1972), the department of Biochemistry has integratingly supported university’s functions with its research and teaching. Many fields, like medicine, microbiology, botany and zoology, environmental sciences and genetics have utilized the department’s know-how.
